    ERIC CHRISTIAN OLSEN TELLS ALL
Posted by Gwen in Online articles (2007) on 30 Aug 2008 ||
Lifetime caught up with the charming Eric Christian Olsen, one of the stars of the new original movie "Write & Wrong," to chat about everything from working with the hilarious Kirstie Alley to being asked to lie about his age at only 21.

Lifetime: What was it like working closely with funny-lady Kirstie Alley?
Olsen: Awesome! I absolutely loved working with her. Kirstie's fearless, wickedly talented and so smart. She is phenomenal and made it so much fun to work, because she's so talented. This was a great opportunity to play a great role with a nice arc as well as act opposite one of my favorite comedic actresses.

Lifetime: Did you do anything specific to prepare for this role as a car salesman?
Olsen: Yeah, I cruised around to three different BMW dealerships trying to get the style and look of these guys, as well as see how far they'll go. There are a lot of similarities between selling cars and pitching movies - it's all about bells and whistles. They're so similar - really nice suits, really nice watches, and they just know how to sell it.

Lifetime: Are you similar to your character in any ways?
Olsen: There are similarities in a lot of characters I play. I think you bring a piece of yourself to everything that you do. All the back-and-forth banter, the sarcasm and the relationship he had with Kirstie's character all come from a very natural place in me.

Lifetime: Do you think that there really is ageism that goes on in Hollywood?
Olsen: Absolutely. In my first job, I was 21, and my publicist told me to lie and say I was 18. I asked why it mattered, and they told me it was really important because I'd be playing a high school kid. But in the middle of the interview I came clean and told them my real age because I thought the whole thing was ridiculous. If you're starting to lie about your age at 21, what do you do at 45!

Lifetime: Do you prefer doing comedy over drama?
Olsen: I actually like both - for different reasons. I think doing a movie like "Write & Wrong" is like a cakewalk because you're playing a character who's so charming, and you get to play with that. In a dramatic role, you're going through the trenches of a character. But both have outcomes where you can say it was fulfilling, for different reasons.

    Lifetime: What's next for you?
Olsen: I have a movie coming out soon called "License to Wed," with Mandy Moore and Robin Williams, as well as a TV show called "The Loop." I also have a movie called "Sunshine Cleaning," with Alan Arkin, Emily Blunt and Amy Adams, that will probably come out at Sundance next year.
